Tiny Discoveries: Rescued Kittens on the Path to Their Forever Family

Four tiny kittens, only 10 days old and named Teenie, Tiny, Titch, and Smalls by the caring team at Mayhew, were rescued from a bin bag in Brent, North West London. Thanks to the quick actions of a passerby who noticed the moving bag, the kittens were immediately taken to Mayhew for help.

Upon arrival, Mayhew’s Vet Team conducted a full check-up on the scared little ones and settled them into a safe and cozy cabin in the kitten block. Animal Welfare Officer, Paul Grimes, expressed concern for the kittens, stating the fear they must have experienced being abandoned at such a young age without their mother.

Without their feline mom, the kittens required specialized care, leading two foster carers to step in and take on the task of hand-rearing them. Mayhew’s Cat Welfare Coordinator, Georgina Disney, explained the round-the-clock care required for the kittens, including feeding them every three hours with veterinary-formulated milk substitute.

With routine and stability key to their development, Mayhew ensured the kittens stayed with the same foster carers throughout their journey to recovery. Thanks to the dedication of Mayhew’s team and foster carers, Teenie, Tiny, Titch, and Smalls are now on the path to growing into happy and healthy adult cats.

“This task is quite challenging and requires a lot of attention and specialized care, which is why it can be risky for anyone to attempt it on their own. It’s best to consult with experts like us before trying. Seeking advice from a veterinarian or reaching out to us is essential because inexperienced individuals could endanger the kittens’ lives.”

“We are thankful for the dedicated foster carers Mayhew has trained to assist us in hand-rearing kittens such as Teenie, Tiny, Titch, and Smalls.”

“After reaching a suitable age, these kittens will receive their vaccinations and be spayed or neutered before they are ready to be placed in their forever homes.”
