The Astounding Evolution of a 14-Year-Old Cat: From Tiny Kitten Weight to Healthy Senior Cat

14 Year Old Cat Weighed Same as 4 Month Old Kitten, But A Few Months After the Rescue...

At only 14 years old, Ruggedly Ann weighed a tiny 4-month-old kitten on the scales. Despite skepticism from others, this little kitty defied the odds and emerged victorious!

In a heartwarming tale of rescue and care, Raggidy Ann, a calico cat weighing only 3 pounds and 15 ounces, was taken in by Saving One Life, a rescue group in Chandler, Arizona. This elderly feline, estimated to be at least 14 years old, was saved from a dire hoarding situation where she lived with dozens of other animals. Rescued by the local Humane Society, Raggidy Ann was in a pitiful state, just skin and bones. The staff at the Humane Society were concerned that she might not survive much longer. When Saving One Life saw a photo of her shared online, they knew they had to step in and provide the care she needed. Brianne Youngberg, a foster at Saving One Life, was deeply moved by Raggidy Ann’s story. “When the director and I saw the photo, our hearts just broke,” she shared with Love Meow. Despite the challenges ahead, they were determined to give Raggidy Ann the love and support she deserved, even if it meant providing hospice care during her time in foster care.

Every day in her temporary residence, she continues to gain weight steadily. According to the account, Brianne remembers the first night Ann spent with her, mentioning how deeply she slept that she almost seemed lifeless. But Ann defied the odds and showed her resilience. She is a determined little fighter, with her weight carefully monitored as she adds a few more ounces each day.

Brianna introduced her to a mixture of kitten wet food and warm water to assist in digestion. It took a while for her malnourished body to adjust to food, but Ann eagerly devoured it. Due to severe muscle loss, she struggled to even lift her head, so a cozy bed and a plush toy were provided to help her feel at ease. With everything she needed close by, Ann could concentrate on recuperating and finding peace.

“During the first two weeks, I had to provide Ann with subcutaneous fluids daily to ensure she was properly hydrated,” shared Brianne. With great affection, Ann started to gain weight and regain her strength in her legs, while her unique personality began to emerge.

“We are amazed by the incredible progress Ruggedly Ann has made every day,” Brianne shared with Love Meow. “She’s out and about, mingling with our other cats and foster buddies, enjoying the climbing trees and playing with toys. It’s like she’s transformed into a real feline before our eyes.”

Despite her past, Ann is a bundle of love. She has a warm heart and enjoys being around people. “She loves using her keen eyes and ears to take in the sights and sounds of her surroundings. Climbing cat trees, watching the birds through the window, and observing her human friends are some of her top activities,” shared Brianne with Love meow.

In just four months, Ann has gone from a mere 4 pounds to a hefty 10 pounds. Her determination and unwavering spirit have been nothing short of awe-inspiring. “This little trooper has defied all odds. Initially, when I took her into my care, I thought she might just need hospice services due to her state. But her refusal to give up motivated us to keep fighting for her.”
