Lost and Lonely Pooch: A Tale of a Struggling Stray Dog left Crying on the Street.

Leaving behind a dog with unique requirements is unquestionably unkind, and leaving a note with the animal does not make the act any less heartless. The tale of Lunita from Salta, Argentina, serves as a tragic illustration of this inhumanity.

Lunita, a disabled dog of average size, was discovered paralyzed and alone on the streets in May of 2014. She was spotted lying on the ground with her hind legs attached to an old wheelchair, accompanied by a note revealing her name and age. Thankfully, a kind employee from a dog grooming salon stumbled upon her and quickly reached out to LUBA Salta, a rescue organization for dogs in need.

The organization’s volunteers brought Lunita into their shelter and found her a temporary home with a foster family. Through posts on social media, they tried to find her a forever home, but no one came forward to give her the love she deserved. Eventually, a family from America showed interest in adopting her, and a fundraiser was started to help with the costs of bringing her to the US. Sadly, after the adoption, it became clear that the family wasn’t able to provide Lunita with the specific care she required due to her delicate condition.

While staying with the family, Lunita contracted a serious staph infection caused by mites in the bed. Her health declined quickly, especially her breathing. Thankfully, another kind family stepped in to help her get the care she needed.

Lunita had hair loss below her waist due to urine burns, scabies, and infections. She also endured a painful urinary tract infection and was severely underweight at only 35 pounds. With intense medical intervention, Lunita was able to recover in the end.

After Lunita recovered, her life took a turn for the better. She embarked on numerous travels with her new family, had her first experience with snow, and built strong friendships. On June 15, 2018, she celebrated her 11th birthday surrounded by loved ones, including family, friends, and fellow dogs, which filled her heart with happiness.
Unfortunately, Lunita’s health began to decline, leading to her admission to intensive care. Despite the efforts of her caregivers, her condition continued to deteriorate, and she struggled with every breath. Ultimately, her family had to make the difficult decision to allow her to peacefully pass away, surrounded by those who cherished her most.

Lunita’s journey showcases the strength of animals and the kindness and love that people can display. Despite facing challenges, she ultimately experienced joy and affection in her final year, thanks to the nurturing families who made her time on Earth truly extraordinary.
