‘Heartbroken: The Story of Zsa Zsa, the Beloved ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Champion, and her Unexpected Passing’

The 2018 World’s Ugliest Dog, a nine-year-old English bulldog named Zsa Zsa, has sadly passed away while sleeping, as confirmed by her owner Megan Brainard. The news was shared in a statement to the Star Tribune. Brainard expressed her devastation over the loss, stating that Zsa Zsa was found by her dad after he discovered she had passed away at his house.

Zsa Zsa gained fame for her distinctive underbite, long tongue, and rounded limbs, which helped her secure the title at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California last month. Brainard, a resident of Anoka, Minnesota, was awarded $1,500 for Zsa Zsa’s victory. She had found her beloved pet on a pet-finding website, as mentioned in the contest biography.

The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has been a platform for dogs to showcase their unique imperfections, from hairless bodies to lolling tongues. Last month’s participants included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt, a wrinkly-skinned bulldog mix, and a Pekingese named Wild Thang. The previous year’s winner was Martha, a Neopolitan Mastiff known for her droopy face and gassy nature.

Zsa Zsa’s passing marks a somber moment in the 30-year history of the contest, where dogs and their handlers parade down a red carpet for judging. Despite her quirky appearance, Zsa Zsa was adored by many for her exceptionally long tongue and charming personality. Her victory was a proud moment for Brainard, who shared a special bond with her beloved pet.
