The love of a mother knows no bounds.
Alissa Smith, one of the founders of Wrenn Rescues, was contacted about saving a litter of kittens who were only 10 days old. The shelter staff in Downey, California had already rescued them, but they needed assistance from someone more experienced. Alissa said:
“With only 15 minutes to spare, no one else was available to help, but thankfully, our networking group was able to rescue them and a kind woman named CJ drove them all the way to Ventura County, California to bring them to us.”
A group of kittens was first seen in a yard with their mother who ran away when approached by people. Ashley, a foster volunteer, and Jenifer Hurt, the rescue’s co-founder, took care of the kittens by bottle-feeding them at their center. Despite being well cared for by their mother, orphaned kittens usually don’t see their mother again when taken to a shelter. This highlights the importance of leaving kittens where they are found and waiting for their mother instead of immediately taking them to a shelter.
Jenifer and Ashley were all set to feed the kittens from a bottle until they were ready to eat on their own. However, a heartwarming twist occurred! The people who first found the kittens and took them to the shelter found the mama cat looking for her little ones at their place. They managed to capture her and bring her back to her kittens the very next day.
Upon her arrival at the California shelter, she appeared timid and uneasy until Ashley introduced her to one of the kittens. “I placed a little one in front of her, and immediately she looked more at ease. With the help of the kitten, we managed to coax her out of the carrier. She then went straight to her litter and settled in the middle, purring contentedly. The kittens all gathered around her, nursing happily.”
The mother cat began purring and caring for her kittens, creating a truly heartwarming moment of reunion. “It’s just incredible that this miracle happened. The reunion exceeded all expectations.”
The next day, Ashley was greeted by the sweet sound of the mama cat purring contentedly as she woke up.
