Special needs cats often encounter many obstacles that make their lives more challenging. This applies to an extraordinary cat called Booger Roux, who found himself in a similar situation. Found alone and with a slim chance of surviving in the summer of 2014, Booger Roux’s future seemed bleak. However, fate had bigger intentions for this small kitten, and all he had to do was display his unbeatable determination in order to defy all expectations.
Booger Roux came into our lives at just the right moment, offering a much-needed reprieve from the stress we were under. As dedicated cat parents for over twenty years, my spouse and I view our feline companions as our own children, since we were unable to have kids of our own.
Booger Roux seamlessly integrated into our feline family, receiving love and playfulness from all of them. Some even take on the role of protective guardians, giving him extra attention whenever he needs it.
Our vet suspects that Booger Roux suffered from malnourishment while still in his mother’s womb, as she was a stray cat from our neighborhood and showed signs of poor nutrition. After a year-long effort, we were able to capture her and provide her with proper care. In 2015, we joyfully reunited her with Booger Roux, her precious offspring.
In a truly remarkable twist of fate, Mr. Roux has recently been awarded the esteemed title of America’s Most Adored Pet. The competition was fierce, with an abundance of absolutely adorable and heartwarming feline contenders, yet Booger Roux managed to rise above them all. I had the pleasure of connecting with his owner, Lynne, to delve deeper into the charming personality of this incredible cat, whose expressive eyes seem to have an incredible story to tell.
When questioned about how Booger Roux became a beloved member of their family, Lynne divulged that he was discovered as a special needs cat on a scorching hot summer day. The unfortunate creature was severely malnourished, weighing in at a mere 8 ounces, when they stumbled upon him on their back porch in the sizzling month of July 2014. Since then, Booger Roux has defied expectations and triumphed over numerous obstacles.
How did you come up with his name?
When it came to naming our fluffy companions, my partner took the reins and came up with the unique moniker, Booger Roux. According to Allan, he firmly believed that if you give a feline enough time, their true name will be revealed to you. Remarkably, that is exactly what occurred.
What is his demeanor like?
Booger Roux is a burst of liveliness, always poised for adventure. However, there are a few idiosyncrasies to take note of. Unlike your typical meowing cat, his vocalizations differ from the norm. In addition to this, he craves additional comfort and consolation, often relying on a calming ThunderShirt, particularly at nighttime. Despite these peculiarities, he possesses a remarkable level of intelligence and understands precisely how to convey his desires, whether it’s for a playful session with his string toy or a jaunt on his Cat Wheel.
Does Booger Roux have any furry siblings living with him? Booger Roux shares his home with a wonderful group of 13 brothers and sisters, all of whom were rescued just like him. What’s something special about Booger Roux that I’d like everyone to know? When he was younger, our vet noticed that Booger Roux had some features reminiscent of Down syndrome, which gives him a unique appearance. However, this doesn’t affect his ability to be a loving pet. In fact, he has become an invaluable source of comfort for both my husband and me, who are disabled.
I want people to understand that looks can be deceiving when it comes to pets. Despite his distinct appearance, Booger Roux has shown us immense love and affection. His presence has brought us indescribable happiness, and I truly believe there is something extraordinary about him.
