An Unforgettable Journey: A Blind Cat’s Tale of Love and Family in Germany, Saved from the Streets of Morocco

During their vacation in Morocco in July 2019, Caroline and her companion witnessed two dogs playing with a kitten outside their apartment after dinner. Caroline remembers that at first, they didn’t think the situation was risky, so they went inside. However, as they observed the animals from their balcony, they began to worry about the well-being of the timid kitten. It was evident that the kitten was feeling overwhelmed and uneasy in the company of the playful dogs.

After discovering the calico kitten alone downstairs, the couple searched but could not find her family. Concerned for the little cat’s well-being, they decided to bring her inside. Upon closer inspection, they realized the poor kitten was in a rough state. She was filthy, emaciated, infested with fleas and ticks, had a distended belly, diarrhea, and even had some eye issues.

Caroline and her partner decided to give the cute kitten a much-needed bath to get rid of those pesky fleas and ticks. The next day, they brought her to the vet for a check-up. The vet estimated the kitten to be around three months old and sadly, it was determined that she had experienced a serious infection that had permanently affected both of her eyes.

According to Carol, the kitten was treated for worms and fleas and was generally healthy and quite agile. The plan was to care for her temporarily and eventually find her a loving family in Morocco.

After Caroline and her husband discovered a stray cat, they brought her in and cared for her. The more time Caroline spent with the calico kitten, the more she fell in love with her. Eventually, Caroline knew she couldn’t bear to part with the playful and lovable kitten. She simply had to bring her back to Stuttgart, Germany with her. Caroline fondly recalls how the cat’s big personality won her over completely.

After falling in love with the adorable special needs kitten, Caroline decided to bring her home and officially named her Liah. “The name Liah signifies strength, just like a lion,” Caroline shared. “Considering her resilience and fighting spirit, we felt it was a perfect fit for her.”

Carol began looking into how to bring Leah back to Germany with her and discovered that the process would take longer than she and her partner had initially planned for in Morocco. Despite this setback, Carol was determined to bring Leah home and was able to find a helpful local woman who assisted with getting Leah vaccinated and obtaining the necessary documents for travel. The woman even looked after the blind cat until Carol was able to return to Morocco to bring her back to Germany. “Four months later, I returned to Morocco and brought Leah with me to Germany,” Carol shared.

Liah arrived in Europe in November 2019 and quickly settled into her new home with Caroline. It’s been over a year since she was rescued by her and her partner while vacationing in Morocco. Liah is thriving, especially since Caroline adopted Luna, a one-eyed tabby cat, to keep her company. According to Caroline, Liah enjoys climbing, is very curious, and loves playing with Luna. They make a great wrestling duo!

Apart from her love for playing soccer, Lia also enjoys dribbling balls and picking blueberries. Her impressive accuracy and agility on the field often leave people in awe, as they struggle to believe that she is visually impaired.

Despite her ability to reach high places easily, Leah often struggles to climb back down and will meow until Caroline assists her. Caroline finds it surprising that this only happens when she is at home, suggesting that Leah somehow knows she may need help and refrains from climbing to such heights when Caroline is not present.

The Instagram account @liah_and_luna features Lia, an extraordinary cat who, despite needing some extra support, is surprisingly independent. Even when her owner Caroline rearranged her home office, Lia quickly adapted to the new layout in just minutes. According to Caroline, Lia doesn’t see herself as different and simply enjoys living her best cat life. In Caroline’s eyes, Lia may be special, but she’s just a normal cat at heart.

After viewing the heartwarming photos on @liah_and_luna’s Instagram, many may feel sympathetic towards blind cats like Liah. However, Caroline disagrees and believes there is no need for pity. In fact, she finds blind animals to be incredibly inspiring. According to Caroline, these cats do not let their disabilities hold them back. Instead, they exude positivity and joy, making the best out of their situation. They prove that even with special needs, they can lead happy and fulfilling lives.

Unfortunately, Caroline’s significant other, who played a crucial role in helping her save Liah, passed away last year. Despite this loss, Liah has been a source of solace and motivation for Caroline. The blind cat not only assisted her mother through her mourning, but also serves as a living reminder of the cherished memories that Caroline and her partner once shared. Reflecting on their time in Morocco, Caroline fondly recalls watching Liah’s gradual improvement as she bravely fought against all obstacles.

The Instagram post by @liah_and_luna reveals a special connection between Liah and her mom, Caroline. Caroline is always there to support Liah when she needs it, and in turn, Liah helps Caroline by making her laugh, offering comfort, and motivating her to face challenges. Caroline acknowledges their strong bond by stating, “We have a very strong bond.” She draws inspiration from observing Liah navigate her daily life with ease and grace, describing her as a “soul cat.”
