While driving through a rural area near Noble, Oklahoma, Alysse Matlock spotted something fluffy on the highway. As she approached, she realized it was a mini Australian Shepherd. Concerned for the dog’s safety, she stopped and attempted to coax it into her car. However, the pup was scared and ran off. Luckily, Alysse managed to take a photo and later posted it on Facebook in hopes of finding the dog. Her efforts paid off as others had also encountered the furry pup. This sparked a rescue mission to help reunite the lost dog with its owner.
However, the mystery of Journey’s origin remained unsolved as no one knew where she came from. A few days later, Journey was spotted in Noble, 10 miles away from where Alysse first encountered her. With the colder weather approaching, the town’s animal lovers grew concerned for Journey’s safety, realizing she needed shelter to survive.
Another worry arose when it was observed that Journey’s stomach was swollen, indicating she was heavily pregnant and the puppies were on the way. Upon hearing this news, Alysse set out to find Journey again, determined to take her somewhere safe. It took Alysse three hours to gain Journey’s trust, but as 1 a.m. approached and Journey remained hesitant, Alysse had to come back another day to try again.
After returning the next day, Alysse noticed someone peeking out from behind a large pile of garbage. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was Journey, who had found a shelter from the cold weather. She found Journey curled up in a broken recliner by the roadside, trying to stay warm.
Despite Alysse’s attempts to get Journey into her car, Journey was resistant. Finally, with the help of some townspeople, they were able to track Journey to the top of a hill. Working together and using hotdogs as a lure, the rescue team successfully captured Journey and brought her safely into the car.
The moment when Journey was finally caught was a huge relief for everyone involved. Strangers who had stopped on the side of the road that morning to help ended up embracing each other in celebration of the successful rescue.
Alysse was thrilled to finally have the pup in her care and wasted no time in taking her to the vet. The vet confirmed that the soon-to-be mama was due to give birth in the next five to seven days. The following morning, Alysse was surprised to wake up to the sound of squeaking. Two little puppies were already born next to Journey, and quickly four more siblings followed. It was a heartwarming sight to see Journey become a mother to a litter of cute and healthy puppies.
In a warm and safe environment, the brave mother and her little ones were finally able to relax and recharge, which was vital for Mama’s recovery.
