Abandoned in a garbage bin, a sickly 8-month-old Chihuahua discovers the power of unconditional love.

Thor, the adorable Chihuahua puppy, embodies all the characteristics you’d expect from an 8-week-old pup: he’s inquisitive, has a hearty appetite, and absolutely adores snuggling up for some quality cuddle time and playing with his foster sister.
But things were completely different for Thor just a week ago.

An animal control team in Dickinson, Texas received a call about a suspicious bag on the side of the road one evening. Upon investigation, they discovered a small 3-pound puppy named Thor inside. Thor was infested with fleas, covered in blood, and his right eye was dislodged from its socket. Despite wearing a collar, it was evident that he had been abandoned there.

The officers quickly brought Thor to Animal Kingdom Pet Hospital, where he was stabilized. Unfortunately, his injured eye was so badly damaged that veterinarians had to remove it. The puncture marks on his body suggested that he may have been attacked by another dog.

It is unknown how Thor ended up in this condition, but one thing is for certain – he is now receiving the care and attention he deserves.

“We weren’t sure if he would make it through the surgery to remove his eye,” shared Kristin Smith, a vet tech at the clinic, with The Dodo. “Thankfully, Thor defied the odds and the operation was a success.”

Thor, a mere 8 weeks old when he was rescued, was found just in time. Smith believes that he wouldn’t have survived another night alone in his condition.

After spending time with Thor during his recovery, Smith was smitten with him. She made the decision to bring him home so he could heal in a loving environment and to lessen the strain on Bayou Animal Services, the local shelter that offered to cover his medical expenses.

“With so many pets being surrendered this holiday season, the shelter was already overwhelmed,” Smith explained. “I knew Thor would have a better chance to recuperate in a home setting.”

It didn’t take her long to notice how much the little dog craved love. Thor eagerly waits for his foster mom to sit down so he can snuggle up with her, showing how much he enjoys cuddling time and naps with his soft blankets.

“He’s incredibly affectionate and absolutely adores cuddling,” she mentioned with a smile. “Thor is such a lovable and tiny baby that everyone who meets him can’t help but fall for him.”

Despite his rough start, Thor is healing well from his surgery and receiving treatment for various parasites. At a young age, he is quickly adapting to life with only one eye, showing no signs of being bothered by it. The stitches on his eyelid will be taken out soon, and he will continue to get his puppy vaccines as he grows.

Smith is looking forward to finding a forever home early next year, but for now, he is enjoying staying close to his foster mom and cozy blankets. He mentioned that Thor, the puppy, is sleeping peacefully and is the ideal companion for him.
