Have you checked out Russia Beyond’s Facebook page yet? If not, you’re missing out on some seriously adorable content! In Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region, a cat owner named Yulia Minina found herself in a unique situation during Russia’s lockdown in March 2020. Wanting to add some extra fun to their home, Yulia and her family decided to adopt a kitten. It was a first for them, and they were thrilled to come across a little white kitty that stole their hearts instantly. Despite the slight disappointment of the kitten not looking quite as cute in person as he did in the photo, they couldn’t help but adore him. Now weighing in at a hefty 12.5 kg, this furry feline takes up a lot of space on Yulia’s chest, but they wouldn’t have it any other way!

As per the Instagram post from yuliyamnn, Minina was taken aback by the unexpected growth of her cat, Kefir, from a small and skinny kitten to a big and fluffy creature. The name Kefir was given by Minina’s daughters, and initially, the cat was quite slender. However, as time passed, Kefir started munching on anything in his sight and enjoyed playing with his owners, often leaping onto windowsills. Back when they were living in a two-bedroom apartment, Kefir’s playful antics would often lead to flower pots falling off the windows. But now, in their new spacious house, Kefir has all the space he needs to roam around and play without causing any mishaps.

Recently, yuliyamnn’s Instagram account shared an update on Kefir, the Maine Coon cat who has undergone impressive growth in just one year. His tufts on his ears and tail have doubled in length in nine months, and he has tripled in size by his first birthday. Now, at one year and 10 months old, Kefir weighs a whopping 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs.). His owner, Minina, describes Kefir’s personality as similar to that of a human – incredibly intelligent, he even joins them at the dinner table in his very own chair. While Maine Coons are generally quiet, Kefir occasionally lets out a soft meow. He loves snoozing on Minina’s chest, although she admits it can be a bit challenging at night now that he’s a bigger boy. Julia is amazed by the unexpected popularity her furry friend has gained on Instagram. Despite only posting two photos of him on her profile, they quickly circulated through various Russian and international media platforms, including Reddit. One particular snapshot of Kefir attracted a lot of attention, amassing 18,000 likes and a slew of comments. While some speculated about editing tricks to make Kefir appear larger, others focused on his serious expression, with a few jokingly suggesting he was a Siberian Lynx who indulges in vodka.

Kefir The Maine Coon Cat Has A Purrsonality As Big As Him

Yulia, the proud owner of the Instagram account yuliyamnn, revealed that many of her followers from both Russia and around the world are so amazed by her pet Kefir that they question if the photos have been manipulated using photoshop. Some have even gone as far as inquiring about purchasing Kefir, which Yulia finds rather disturbing as he is an integral part of her family. She clarified that they simply adore taking more photos of Kefir rather than entertaining the thought of parting ways with him.
