A few years back, Lieschen O’Neill visited the Lawrence Humane Society in Kansas just to browse around. However, as Lieschen herself admits, no one really goes to the Humane Society just to window shop. True to her prediction, Lieschen ended up falling for a dog named Belle and bringing her home. Belle, a unique rescue dog, turned out to be much more than just a pet – she truly changed Lieschen’s life. With her distinctive qualities, Belle captivates the hearts of everyone she meets.
@bellebows4117 noticed a change in Belle as she grew from a puppy to an adult size. Belle’s family couldn’t help but see that her eyes always made her look surprised or shocked. They decided to take Belle to the vet to figure out what was going on.
@bellebows4117 shared that the vet explained how Belle’s unique appearance was due to being stuck in the birth canal during delivery, causing her muscles to grow differently. Despite her bug-eyed look, Belle is perfectly healthy and only needs some special doggie eye drops for occasional dryness. Her mom assured everyone that everything is fine with Belle, and her distinctive appearance makes her even more beautiful.
When Lieschen first entered the Lawrence Humane Society, Belle caught her eye as she eagerly approached them and pressed her tiny face against the kennel door. Belle’s playful and affectionate nature immediately won Lieschen over. “She hopped onto my lap, showered me with kisses, and right then, we knew Belle was coming home with us. It was such a wonderful day,” Lieschen reminisced.

It’s hard to picture life without our beloved Belle. Ever since we brought her home, she has become an essential part of our family. Despite her quirks, Belle is the perfect dog for us – a loyal companion, a great listener, and simply the best pup around. One of her favorite things in the world? Slippers.
“She’s obsessed with slippers. Belle will happily gather one, two, or even three slippers in her mouth and parade around the house with them,” Lieschen shared.
