Tearing Up: Witnessing His Anguish as He Doubles Over in Pain

For those who adore dogs, it’s a mystery why anyone would want to hurt an innocent animal without cause. Unfortunately, some people can be cruel without logic or reason. This is the heartbreaking tale of Spencer, a gentle Doberman who endured a tremendous amount of abuse in his first year of life.

Spencer was found injured on the side of a highway in South Carolina after being struck by a car. He was spotted scavenging for food – even resorting to eating roadkill to survive.

Thankfully, a group of kind-hearted people brought Spencer to Paws & Claws in Columbia, South Carolina. The vet could easily see that Spencer had been injured, with visible signs of pain. It was determined that his back had been fractured, likely a result of the recent car accident.

The staff members also noticed that he had a poorly done ear cropping, likely done at home. X-rays showed a clump of sharp bird bones stuck in his stomach, posing a serious threat of tearing it apart. Additionally, he had cuts on his head and legs that required stitches.

It was clear that Spencer had suffered from abuse, as he was found on the street, left to fend for himself. Thankfully, the VCA Animal Specialty Center of South Carolina provided some good news – despite his small size, Spencer still had feeling in his legs. They were optimistic that surgery could help his spine heal, giving him a chance to walk again.

Thankfully, the surgery on his back was successful, and he was on the road to recovery, gradually relearning how to walk. Additionally, the vets found that the bones in his stomach were starting to pass naturally without any complications. It seemed like things were finally progressing in the right direction.

Currently, he is on the road to recovery thanks to the caring staff and rigorous physical therapy sessions. He’s making remarkable progress! Starting from being fully assisted in walking, he quickly graduated to walking independently without any support. He’s back to his usual self and now struts around on his own two feet! “He’s a fantastic pup – youthful, happy, and overall very healthy. He’s excited to embrace all the joys that life has to offer.”
