Discover Kefir, Russia’s Beloved Maine Coon Sensation (Captivating Photos Inside).

Are you following Russia Beyond on Facebook? If not, you could be missing out on some adorable content! In Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region, a cat owner named Yulia Mina found herself in a unique situation during Russia’s lockdown in March 2020. Yulia and her family decided to bring a new furry member into their home for some extra fun. It was their first time adopting a kitten, and they stumbled upon a little white kitten in their search and instantly fell in love. The only disappointment came when they picked up the kitten – he didn’t look quite as cute as he did in the photo. But that didn’t stop them from loving him – even though he now weighs 12.5 kg and takes up quite a bit of space on Yulia’s chest!

According to the Instagram account of yuliyampan, Mina was amazed at how Kefir, her cat, grew into a large and fluffy creature despite its unimpressive beginnings. The name Kefir was chosen by Mina’s daughters, and the cat initially had a slender build. However, after four to five months, Kefir started devouring anything in sight and regularly played with his owners, often leaping onto windowsills. Before moving into a spacious house, Kefir lived with his owners in a two-bedroom apartment. Because of his playful nature, flower pots would frequently topple off windowsills. Now, Kefir has all the space he needs to stretch and play without causing any accidents.

The Instagram account of yuliyampan shared an update about Kefir, an adorable Maine Coon cat who has experienced significant growth in just one year. In the span of six months, his tassels on his ears and tail have doubled in length, and by the end of his first year, he had tripled in size. Now, at one year and 10 months old, Kefir weighs a whopping 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs.). According to his owner, Minina, Kefir possesses a personality akin to that of a person – he’s incredibly intelligent and even joins them at the dinner table in his own chair. While it’s uncommon for Maine Coons to meow frequently, Kefir occasionally lets out a quiet meow. As for his habits, he enjoys cuddling and sleeping on Minina’s chest, although she admits it can be slightly disruptive at night now that he’s larger.

Julia is pleasantly surprised by the popularity her cat has gained on Instagram. Despite only sharing two photos of him on her profile, they quickly spread across various Russian and foreign media forums, including Reddit. One particular photo featuring Kefir, her cat, received a significant amount of attention, accumulating 18,000 likes and numerous comments. While some people speculated about the use of lenses and optical illusions to make Kefir appear larger, others simply commented on his scowling face. A few humorous commenters even joked that Kefir was actually a Siberian Lynx that feeds on the unworthy and drinks vodka, given his unhappy expression.

Yulia, the owner of the Instagram account yuliyampan, recently shared an interesting observation about her pet Kefir. Many of her followers, both from Russia and around the world, seem to have a hard time believing that Kefir is a real animal. They often question whether the photos of Kefir have been manipulated using Photoshop. To her surprise, Yulia even received inquiries from people expressing their interest in purchasing Kefir, which she finds quite shocking and distressing. Kefir is not just a pet to Yulia but a cherished member of her family, and the thought of parting with him is unthinkable. Instead, they choose to capture more adorable pictures of Kefir, ensuring that he remains a part of their lives.
