A severely undernourished Pit Bull mix was discovered by the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington DC. The puppy, named Shepherd, was found dehydrated and lying in a gutter on Okie Street NE for a period of 12 hours. Unfortunately, the pup’s organs were also beginning to fail due to the harsh conditions he had endured.
After being taken to a nearby hospital, Shepherd’s condition was very fragile. The veterinarian didn’t have much hope for him due to his constant collapsing and severe skin mangling. Surprisingly, after a week of intensive care, Shepherd managed to overcome this critical period and slowly regained his strength to live again!
At the moment, Shepherd is under the temporary care of a foster mother named Kim O’Keefe in Burke, Virginia. It’s truly upsetting for Kim that someone could harm such a kind and affectionate dog like Shepherd. However, with Kim’s devoted care, Shepherd is making a steady recovery and will be available for adoption soon enough.
At this moment, kind-hearted volunteers from the Humane Rescue Alliance are working together with law enforcement officials, trying to track down the heartless person who callously abandoned Shepherd like a piece of garbage. Despite the fact that the shelter was just a stone’s throw away from where the dog was left, the perpetrator made the cruel decision to leave the poor animal to suffer and perish gradually in the gutter.
