Helen and her significant other are both passionate about cats and enjoy dedicating their spare time to assisting feral cats in their community.
The fantastic duo went above and beyond by constructing a small shelter for the group of wild cats in their yard, providing them a safe place to rest and unwind. Recently, they spotted a new cat wandering the neighborhood that captured their hearts right away. In a video, Helen mentioned, “Despite having numerous wounds, this particular cat caught our attention with his really chubby cheeks.” While Ricky’s charm and cuteness were undeniable, he had his fair share of problems. Years of surviving on the tough streets had made him anxious and fearful. When Helen attempted to approach him, he reacted by hissing.
Nonetheless, Helen wasn’t deterred by the situation. Upon seeing the numerous cuts and wounds on Ricky, she was determined to win him over. The caring duo began to feed Ricky consistently, with the hope that he would eventually allow them to approach him. Helen acknowledged, “We understood that it might be challenging since he has a tendency to hiss.”
One evening, Ricky caught sight of Helen entering the shed where she takes care of a group of feral cats. Curious, the kind-hearted giant decided to check it out for himself. Upon entering, he quickly settled in and even grabbed a bite to eat! Helen made a point to stay by Ricky’s side whenever she could, hoping that her company would help soothe his anxious and skittish demeanor.
Unfortunately, after a day of exploring, Ricky came back with a plethora of cuts and bruises on his nose, ears, and feet. In light of this, the couple made the decision to catch him and rush him to the nearest animal hospital for urgent care.
The exhausted young boy, battered from his skirmish, was surprisingly easy to confine in a carrier. After a brief trip to the veterinarian, his injuries were tended to, and it became clear that Ricky needed a cozy spot to recuperate. Helen created a snug retreat for him in the garage, doting on him with food and affection whenever he was willing to accept it.
Ricky seemed to sense that Helen was there to look after him, and slowly but surely he became quite the affectionate companion. He eventually mustered up the courage to venture inside their home, much to Helen’s delight. Reflecting on the moment, Helen recalled, “We’ll always remember the first time he set foot in our house. It was as if he was expressing his gratitude. He seemed to think, ‘I am finally in a safe place where I can unwind.'” Helen made sure Ricky was taken to the vet for a microchip and neutering, and from then on, Ricky never strayed far from the comforts of his new home.
The lovable big kitty finally found his forever family with kind-hearted people who happily accepted the responsibility of being his lifelong companions! His new mom shared, “I believe he is now the most loving cat we have. It’s incredible to think about how he was just a year and a half ago. All he needed was some time, patience, and unconditional love.”
The kindness Helen showed towards Ricky really touched my heart in various ways. It highlighted the significance of caring for stray cats and the need to give them our love without any conditions.
